	Pregnancy & Newborns Pregnancy is an exciting time for parents-to-be. You want to know as much as you can about your developing baby and how your actions will affect his health. Use this information to help you make informed decisions from conception through delivery.

Your pregnancy is a very special time for you. It may be a time of excitement and wonder. Yet, it's not unusual to feel a little frightened, confused or anxious. After all, your body is changing, your baby is growing and you're about to face the incredible experience of childbirth. It's only natural to have questions. And our Especially for Women staff is here to help. Our approach to childbirth is based on the individual needs of each woman and her family. We do all we can to make you feel comfortable, to reassure you, and to ensure you have a healthy baby.

If you're pregnant, it's never too early to seek medical attention. In addition to meeting with your healthcare provider, contact North Okaloosa Medical Center for pre-admission information, registration for prenatal classes, videotapes and a variety of additional educational material. At our prenatal classes, you'll learn about the changes taking place in your body, how your baby is developing, and what to expect during childbirth. You'll also learn how to take care of your baby after it's born, including bathing techniques, feeding, circumcision care, taking temperatures, and other health-related issues.

WE DELIVER Options

The Especially for Women staff is committed to ensuring you have choices for childbirth. We provide a comfortable, safe, state-of-the-art environment for your birthing experience, and encourage you and your healthcare provider to outline a birth plan which details how you want your labor and delivery to occur. Our nurses will support you whether you choose natural childbirth or anesthesia aided childbirth; rooming-in or nursery care; breast-feeding or bottle-feeding. The choices are yours.

CARE THAT'S private AND PROGRESSIVE

Childbirth is an intimate experience that should be as private and comfortable as possible. That's why we offer private birthing suites with many of the comforts of home. You can stay in one room for your entire birth experience - during labor, birth and your immediate postpartum recovery. Private rooms are then available for the rest of your postpartum your baby will receive care from highly qualified nurses, allowing for personalized treatment and instruction in a warm, supportive setting. Part of our commitment to exceptional care includes helping you and your family bond with your newborn. That's why our birthing suites were specially designed to allow your baby to "room in" with you. You may want to spend a great deal of time with your baby right away, or gradually increase the time you spend together. When you need your rest, 24 hour nursery care is available. The Especially for Women area is equipped with a complete surgical suite for us when a Cesarean section is necessary. If a postpartum tubal ligation is what you want, we can offer that service to you during your postpartum stay.

A family AFFAIR

New mothers often have the baby's father or other immediate family members stay overnight with them in their private rooms. We welcome togetherness and have furnished each room with comfortable recliner/sleeper chairs. We can also assist you in arranging excellent accommodations at hotels located near the hospital.

CARE THAT FOLLOWS YOU home

Our Especially for Women program follows you even after you leave the hospital with your new baby. Feel free to call us at any hour of the day or night. Whether it's discussing infant care or helping with breast-feeding, our nurses can give you individualized advice whenever you need it.
