North Okaloosa Medical Center Celebrates Doctors’ Day with Donation to Local Homeless Shelter
3/30/2026
Crestview, FL (3/30/26) - For the fourth year in a row, North Okaloosa Medical Center chose a unique way to commemorate National Doctors’ Day and honor the physicians who serve at the hospital. In lieu of gifts, North Okaloosa Medical Center presented a check for $6,000 to the Crestview Area Shelter for the Homeless as a meaningful way to recognize its medical staff.
“On Doctors’ Day, we are proud to honor the extraordinary physicians who care for our community each and every day” said Mike Nordness, CEO. “Their compassion and commitment extend far beyond our hospital walls, and this donation to the Crestview Area Shelter for the Homeless is a meaningful way to recognize their impact while supporting some of our most vulnerable neighbors.”
The Crestview Area Shelter for the Homeless provides services for the homeless, including food, clothing, showers and laundry services. As well as assists with transportation to doctor’s appointments, getting an ID, applying for Social Security and food stamps.
The first Doctors’ Day observance was held on March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians. March 30 was selected because that day in 1842 marks the introduction of general anesthesia in surgery. On March 30, 1958, a resolution commemorating Doctors' Day was adopted by the United States House of Representatives. In 1990, legislation was introduced in the House and Senate to establish a national Doctors’ Day. Following overwhelming approval by the United States Senate and the House of Representatives on October 30, 1990, a joint resolution was signed into law designating March 30 as National Doctors’ Day.
