Drive collects 23,595 jars of peanut butter for feeding the Gulf Coast
CRESTVIEW, FL - To help address hunger in our community, and to celebrate National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2, North Okaloosa Medical Center is donating 23,595 jars of peanut butter to Feeding the Gulf Coast.
NOMC’s employees, medical staff members, board of trustees and community partners donated the jars during the 4th annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive that ran from March 2nd through March 30th.
According to Feeding the Gulf Coast, an estimated 12.3% of people in Okaloosa County are facing food insecurity. The goal of the Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive is to help support individuals facing food insecurity, which is a social determinant of health. Peanut butter is one of the most requested items for food banks because it is high in nutritional value and has a long shelf life, but unfortunately is one of the least donated items.
“Through our annual Jars of Love peanut butter drive, we’re reminded that even the simplest acts of generosity can make a meaningful difference” said Chief Executive Officer Mike Nordness. “By coming together as a community, we are helping ensure that families in need have access to nutritious, reliable food, and that’s something we are proud to stand behind.”
